The 2018 Research Workshop on Digital Learning in Humanities and Beyond, which is jointly organized by UC Irvine and Tel Aviv University, Israel, will be held Thursday, May 3 – Friday, May 4 in Irvine, California, US. The aims of the symposium are to review current research projects related to digital learning (with a focus on online learning) and disseminate  findings from these projects. In addition, we aim to share pedagogical implications of research studies and explore new methods and approaches for data collection and analysis in digital learning. This workshop might lead to the development of concrete ideas for future research initiatives . We extend invitations to all researchers, practitioners, administrators, and industry professionals who are interested in the fields of online and digital learning in the humanities and beyond.

We are seeking theoretical, methodological, empirical and technical contributions that address topics including, but not limited to:

  • Digital reading and writing environments (e.g., digital literacies, e-Reading, online writing communities)
  • Technology-enhanced language learning (e.g., new tools and instructional practices for second and foreign language teaching and learning)
  • Digital humanities pedagogy (e.g., online teaching and learning in history, literature, and other disciplines)
  • New methods and approaches for data collection and analysis in digital learning (e.g., eye-tracking, automated writing evaluation, discourse analysis, data and text mining, social network analysis)

We welcome three types of submission:

  • Research
    • Focus: to share findings from completed or ongoing research studies
    • Format: 20 minute presentation or a poster
    • Submission: a 250-word abstract
  • Pedagogical practices
    • Focus: to share and discuss innovative tools and approaches for digital teaching and learning
    • Format: 20 minute presentation or a poster
    • Submission: a 250-word abstract
  • Research methods:
    • Focus: to demonstrate innovative research methods in digital teaching and learning
    • Format: One hour demonstration
    • Team presentations are welcome
    • Submission: One page proposal including demonstration title and organizational details
